The CALLIA filbert is a brush shaped like an oval at the tip and is tapered to a chisel edge. The shape of a filbert makes it useful for basecoating round or curved areas, applying washes and painting flower strokes. It has incredible spring and snap, yet can blend very softly and is often used for pat blending techniques and merging values.

The filbert is created with our blend of multi-diameter synthetic kolinsky sable. The filaments are etched to create microscopic pockets for color to absorb into, creating a controlled release of color, and incredible shape retention.

A perfectly balanced handle with six layers of filler, primer, paint and lacquer prevents water from penetrating to the wood. This ensures our handles resist cracking and increases the longevity of your brushes. We use solid brass ferrules which are crimped and meticulously inspected for shape and a scratch-free finish. We offer a fur-free promise, quality materials and tremendous care when designing and manufacturing our brushes!

Sored Hall

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Sored Hall by instagram. I was inspired by her virtual teaching methods and engaging personality. Her warmth, approachability and willingness to share are exactly what creates a great art teacher. Her work is also incredible!!! Sored is a self-taught watercolor artist and calligrapher and the creator of Sored Hall Studio. Her journey began by watching other artists create, and eventually she started to take classes online and in person. She attributes her success to practice…a little bit of practice everyday. One of her primary focuses is urban sketches and I asked her why, “It is a very good way to get to know a place and the best way to practice new painting techniques. Buildings mixed with nature are my jam.
